Recently, Professor Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA, and Associate Professor Zhang Ning accepted an special interview with CNBC, a news and business channel owned by NBC, and CNBC reported on the research work of EEA, Tsinghua University on the high renewable energy and integrated energy systems.

The special interview made by CNBC focuses on the challenges and solutions for the high renewable energy systems of China in the future, and discusses how to use integrated energy systems and other related technologies to improve the consumption capacity of renewable energy. In the special interview, Kang Chongqing mainly introduced the team's research achievement on the planning and operation methods of the high renewable energy power system, and analyzed the development goals, challenges and possible solutions of renewable energy in China; Zhang Ning mainly discussed the role and significance of integrated energy system in improving the flexibility of power system, and analyzed the practical experience of integrated energy system planning for high renewable energy in Northeast China, North China and East China. CNBC reported this interview under the title of "How smart ideas are helping to accommodate China's renewable energy drive".

In the special interview, Kang Chongqing also introduced the research achievement and international influence of EEA, Tsinghua University and the State Key Laboratory of Power System and Generation Equipment Control and Simulation in the field of energy and power systems.

In recent years, Professor Kang Chongqing EEA has directed many basic research projects including "Basic Theory of Power System Planning and Operation of High Renewable Energy Grid Incorporation" (2016YFB0900100) of the national key research and development program, the joint key project "Research on the Theory and Method of Generalized Dynamic Demand Response for Urban Energy Systems" (U1766212) of the National Natural Science Foundation and the Smart Power Grid Foundation of China, and "Basic Research on Low-carbon, High-efficiency and Multi-Energy System for Renewable Energy Consumption" (51620105007) of the key project of the National Natural Science Foundation for international cooperation and exchange in the field of high renewable energy grid incorporation and integrated energy systems. 8 highly cited papers on ESI have been published in related research work, and the research achievement have attracted wide attention at home and abroad. The "Grid Optimizing and Planning Software System (GOPT)" developed by the project has been used in the planning of more than ten provincial and regional power systems in China by the State Grid Economic and Technological Research Institute, East China Electric Power Design Institute, Southern Power Grid Research Institute and the planning department of many provincial power grid companies.
