On the evening of August 8, 2018, on the occasion of the General Meeting of the Institute of IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) held in Portland, USA, the Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE) invited more than 100 Tsinghua alumni to gather together to hold the inaugural meeting of the North America Tsinghua DEE Alumni Association and held the Talents Recruitment Seminar for the DEE of Tsinghua University.

Zhou Xiaoxin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Honorary President of China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI), Tong Lang, Professor of Cornell University, Zhou Erzhuan, Chief Expert of State Grid Electric Power Research Institute, Luan Wenpeng, Chief Expert of China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI), Prof. Qu Ronghai, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Zheng Tongxin, Technical Manager of ISO Corporation in New England, USA, and Li Zuyi, Professor of Illinois Institute of Technology, Zhong Jin, Professor of University of Hong Kong and other alumni of Hong Kong University, were invited to attend the meeting. Moreover, the DEE also invited Mr. Zhang Wengong, Special Term Professor and Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering of National Chung Cheng University (Taiwan) and IEEE Fellow, to attend the meeting. Twenty teachers from the Department of Electrical Engineering Tsinghua University attended the meeting, including Party Secretary Kang Chongqing, deputy director Lu Zongxiang, assistant director Lu Chao, Prof. Zhang Boming, Prof. Dong Xinzhou, Prof. He Jinliang, and Prof. Wu Wenchuan, as well as young teachers such as Cheng Lin, Shi Libao, Hu Wei, Guo Qinglai, Chen Ying, Chen Laijun, Chen Qixin, Chen Lei, Huang Shaowei, Zhang Ning, Zhong Haiwang, Wei Huai, and Zhang Shuqing.

Tsinghua alumni meeting hall in the power industry

First, the founding meeting of Tsinghua Electrical Engineering Alumni Association was held. As a representative of the Preparatory Committee of the North American Tsinghua DEE Alumni Association, Prof. Xie Le, an alumnus of 2000 in DEE and Professor of Texas A&M University, introduced the preparatory process, development vision, membership conditions and later tasks of the North American Tsinghua DEE Alumni Association. The preparatory group of the Alumni Association includes Xie Le, Mi Jingchao, Huang Zhenyu, Zheng Tongxin, Liu Shanshan, Sun Yi, Chen Minjie and Geng Xinbo. Prof. Kang Chongqing, Secretary of the Party Committee of Department of Electrical Engineering, has presented letters of appointment to the Preparatory Committee of the North American Tsinghua DEE Alumni Association.

Subsequently, together with the electronics alumni "to recall the past, see the present and look forward to the future", Academician Zhou Xiaoxin, as the first speaker of the old upperclassman, reviewed his university life, shared his ideas on the new generation of energy and power systems, and raised ardent expectations to the alumni attending the meeting. Prof. Tong Lang of Cornell University introduced the reasons that he had devoted himself to energy and power research in recent years and his current research directions. Zheng Tongxin, Technical Manager of ISO Company in New England, USA, introduced the basic situations of North American electricity market and development of power industry; Zhu Hao, assistant professor of Austin University, Texas, introduced the situations of North American Professor Tsinghua Association, and expressed his sense of belonging to the Alumni Association as a new generation of young scholar; Mr. Zhang Wengong, Professor of National Chung Cheng University, introduced the development of Taiwan's electricity industry, and invited all alumni to visit Taiwan more to realize a family on both sides of the Taiwan Straits; Gong Bo, who works in the local Columbia Grid in Portland, introduced the basic situation of the Oregon State Grid and the local landscape and culture of Portland.

The meeting was devoted to the introduction and recruitment of talents for Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE), Tsinghua University. Prof. Kang Chongqing, Secretary of the DEE Party Committee, introduced to the alumni the development and gratifying achievements of the Department of Electrical Engineering in the past five years, propagated the talent introduction policy of the DEE, encouraged overseas alumni to return home actively for development and to prefer to Tsinghua and make new contributions to the Alma Mater.

Finally, the alumni attended the meeting took a group photo as a souvenir. The alumni gathering ended with a farewell. All alumni look forward to another gathering next year and the vigorous development of North America Tsinghua DEE Alumni Association.
