On the morning of April 22, 2018, Chen Guoping (alumnus of 1982, DEE), Chief Engineer of State Grid Corporation of China and Director of State Electric Power Dispatching and Control Center, visited Tsinghua University and made a report entitled "Thoughts on the Construction of a New Generation of Electric Power System", and had a discussion with teachers of Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE) and Department of Energy and Power Engineering. The report meeting was presided over by Zeng Rong, Director of the DEE, and the discussion is presided over by Kang Chongqing, Secretary of the DEE Party Committee. More than 70 teachers and students, including He Jingbo, Deputy Director General of the Mode Department of the State Electric Power Dispatching & Control Center, Zhang Hu, Director of the Science and Technology Development Department of Tsinghua University, Xia Qing, Chairman of the Degree sub-Committee of the DEE, Lu Zongxiang, Vice Director of the DEE, and Zhuo Yuqun, vice Director of Department of Energy and Power Engineering, attended the meeting.

Chen Guoping's report, combined with the structural characteristics and major technical challenges of China's power grid, makes a detailed analysis on the trends and challenges of the future power system development, expounds the key issues and prospects in the construction of a new generation of power systems, and puts forward expectations for Tsinghua University to actively carry out high-level researches in response to the major needs of the industry. Teachers and students participated in the discussion and exchange enthusiastically. The report lasted about one and a half hours. Many of students listened to the report at their feet in the whole meeting.

Teachers' symposium was arranged after the report. Teachers had a heated discussion and exchange with Chief Engineering Chen Guoping based on the contents of the report and their own scientific research experience. Zhang Hu, Director of Department of Science and Technology Development, Lu Zongxiang, deputy Director of the DEE, and Yu Yuqun, deputy Director of the Department of Energy and Power Engineering, put forward a number of concrete suggestions on further promoting the implementation of the strategic cooperation agreement between the State Grid Corporation and Tsinghua University. The two sides agreed to seize the great opportunity of the energy revolution and promote the researches on the basic theory, methods and technologies of the new generation of power systems, so as to become a banner leading the innovation of the power energy disciplines and the revolution of the energy industry.
